Police search for suspect in California college shooting

Three men shot, one fatally, at Sacramento City College

Police say that three people were shot in a parking lot next to a baseball field on the campus of Sacramento City College and that one of them died.

Sacramento Police Department Chief Sam Somers wrote on Twitter at 6:30 p.m. local time that there was no shooter on campus after a lockdown and that a homicide investigation was underway.

Police said that were searching for a suspect late into the night whom they described to The Sacramento Bee as “a Pacific Islander, wearing cargo shorts and no shirt.”

College spokesman Rick Brewer said in an email to Reuters one of the four people involved in the shooting was a student, but he did not say whether the student was a victim or the shooter.

He told Sacramento Fox 40 TV that there was an argument on the campus, which culminated in one person pulling out an automatic weapon and shooting the other three.

All three victims were men, Sacramento police told The Associated Press. One has been confirmed dead, and the other two were taken to hospitals.

Classes were in session at the college, which has a student body of about 25,000. The fall semester began on Aug. 22.
