With the start of the 68th United Nations General Assembly in New York, the international community's attention turned towards potential talks between US President Barack Obama and Iranian President Hassan Rouhani.
In separate speeches before the world body, both Obama and Rouhani said serious diplomacy between the Unites States and Iran was a real possibility. Officials later said that, despite the thaw in relations and possible concessions in negotiations over Iran's nuclear program, the two leaders would not meet in person for now.
With foreign policy commentators awed by Rouhani's charm offensive en route to Turtle Bay - and the Obama administration cautiously optimistic about the new Iranian leader's overtures - skeptics wonder if the detente is too good to be true.
