Before coming to Al Jazeera, Samuel worked at Jigsaw Productions, the film company of Oscar-winning director Alex Gibney. He worked on documentaries such as "We Steal Secrets: The Story of WikiLeaks," "Client 9: The Rise and Fall of Eliot Spitzer" and "Casino Jack and the United States of Money." 

In 2012, he reported and wrote "The Convert," an hour-long radio documentary for "This American Life" about the FBI's surveillance of mosques in Southern California.
