Tornadoes tear through Midwest, flatten towns

Violent tornadoes swept across the Midwest this weekend, leaving a trail of destruction in their wake. Al Jazeera America meteorologist Kevin Corriveau and Chicago-based storm chaser Adam Lucio join host Antonio Mora to discuss the severity of the event from a meteorological perspective.

Cathy Scott-Clark and Adrian Levy, authors of “The Siege: 68 Hours Inside the Taj Hotel,” join Antonio Mora to discuss their book. “The Siege” provides an investigative account of the 2008 terrorist attacks in Mumbai by looking at how the men who carried out the plot were trained and how they used an American double agent to gain inside information about the Taj’s layout.

How did Mars become a barren desert?

NASA spacecraft MAVEN launched today, and it’s on its way to Mars. MAVEN (an acronym for the Mars Atmosphere and Volatile Evolution mission) will study Mars’ atmosphere in an attempt to understand how the Red Planet evolved over time. The Franklin Institute Science Museum’s chief astronomer Derrick Pitts will join Antonio Mora to discuss the mission and other recent news in the world of space.
