Is there a war on the overweight? One study found parents are less likely to help overweight kids pay for college. Another reports children as young as 3 years old stigmatize based on size. According to the World Health Organization, global obesity rates have doubled since 1980. The CDC estimates obesity-related medical costs are around $147 billion annually in 2008 dollars. Growing concerns over weight have led to initiatives on the federal level, such as Michelle Obama's Let's Move campaign, to the local level, like New York City's controversial soda ban.
