Dogs of 'TechKnow'

Our contributor shares her behind-the-scenes shots from our story about cancer-sniffing dogs.

I had such an amazing time shooting our upcoming episode about dogs that can sniff cancer. I learned an awful lot, broke a bit of my skepticism (but not all of it!), and I got to snuggle with puppies all day!

Here are some of my favorite shots from the field:

Field producer Tracy Martinez
My wonderful field producer Tracy always keeps her notes handy. But this snuggle monster wouldn't let her get back to work. Personally, I don't think she minded too much.
Camera-sniffing dog
If this were my dog, I would NOT have trusted him to get so close to the camera! He would have surely lifted his leg and "marked his territory" at this point. But dog trainer Dina Zaphiris is very talented. None of her students would dare!

How did this photo make its way in here? Do I always stick my tongue out when I type on my phone? I mean--look at the doggy! Isn't he cute?
Producer Noreen Moustafa
Our incredible producer Noreen Moustafa couldn't get away from this love muffin. But why should she? The best part--I'm pretty sure this giant dog thought he was a tiny puppy. He jumped up into Noreen's lap and made himself comfortable the way a chihuahua would!
JB Rutagarama
Our director of photography, JB, always has a lot of tricks up his sleeve. Here, he's setting up shades so he could block out the sun for my interview with dog trainer Dina Zaphiris.
Greyhound
That sure is a big greyhound! Such a sweet dog too--apparently he used to live with Tony Montana himself, Al Pacino!

That's dog trainer extraordinarre Dina Zaphiris and her lovely greyhound. They have a bond that can't be broken.
Dina Ziphiris
Look at all those sweet puppies! This is the gate to the dog park on trainer Dina Zaphiris's ranch. Most of the dogs you see here are brought to the facilities by their owners daily so they can get extra special attention and training.

What a love! Little Kira warmed my heart right along with my producer, Tracy's. Watch closely on the upcoming episode of TechKnow featuring many of these lovely dogs with special abilities. You'll notice that little Kira helps me introduce one of the segments!
