How 3D printing—and the force—might save kids from surgeries

Max Page and his mother, Jennifer, are excited to hear that 3D-printed artificial heart valves could mean kids like Max with congenital heart defects might be able to avoid multiple surgeries.

Remember little Max Page from this 2011 Volkswagen commercial that aired during the Super Bowl

He's unmasked and slightly older in this Sunday's episode of "TechKnow," talking about a new use of 3D printing—an artificial heart valve that could help kids like Max, who was born with a congenital defect, to avoid multiple surgeries to replace the valve with bigger models as they grow up.

Max told us, "If you use your force, and dream big, you can achieve anything."

Watch "TechKnow" on Al Jazeera America this Sunday at 7:30pm ET/PT for more of Max's story.
