Addiction and the Rehab Industry

As drug manufacturers face lawsuits claiming their campaigns feed addiction, America rethinks its 12-step programs.

On this episode of The Stream, we look at a number of class action lawsuits targeting big Pharma for what some claim are deceptive practices in advertising that are causing an increase in addiction among Americans. Also: Alcoholics Anonymous commemorates its 79th anniversary this week, boasting 2 million members in 115,000 groups, half of which are in the US.  But does the 12 step program really work?  We talk to both supporters and skeptics.
