Emotional Intelligence at School and Work

From standardized test to homework, have traditional institutions of education outlived their success?

From standardized tests, to homework and valuing IQ over other traits, have the institutions of American education outlived their success?  A handful of schools are now teaching kids emotional intelligence (EQ).  EQ controls how we think about ourselves, makes us independent and resilient while letting us communicate effectively and build strong, lasting relationships.  These characteristics are increasingly being sought out by businesses and championed by schools that are challenging traditional notions of what it means to be smart. The Stream debates whether EQ is the new IQ, and if teaching it can achieve long term results like anti-bullying in schools and career prep- or if it’s just another education fad.
