On Tuesday, August 5 at 12:30pm ET:
As President Obama hosts the US-Africa leaders’ summit, we look at the most pressing security, health and development issues facing the second largest continent on earth. With the IMF projecting a 6.1% economic growth in the region in 2014, what’s the U.S to gain from a more stable and prosperous Africa? And what underlying factors (poverty, food insecurity, education and health care etc.) may be contributing to ongoing violence in places from Nigeria (recent blasts) and Somalia, to the CAR? We also touch upon the countries not invited to the summit due to issues with their democratic records--including Sudan, and Eritrea. Also, we report on the deadliest outbreak of Ebola in West Africs history. It has no cure, and no vaccine. We take a look at its origins in the region, aid strategies, and how it’s impacting whole villages and families. Finally, we feature a unique angle tbd featuring young Africans paving the way for change in unlikely ways.
