Mexico torture report

Mexico has experienced a 600% increase in reports of torture and ill-conduct over a decade, according to Amnesty.

A sharp rise in allegations of torture committed by the Mexican police and military has many questioning the country’s escalated crackdown on crime. More than 7,000 torture complaints were recorded between 2010 and 2013 alone, and 64% of Mexicans surveyed by Amnesty International are scared of being tortured if taken into custody. Prosecutions are rare in a judicial system accused of rampant corruption and bribery. On an upcoming episode, we investigate what conditions led to the spike and what’s being done about it.
